The Trencor Jetco Model 1600 Road Miner was developed to excavate final grade for new streets and roads in areas predominately underlaid with rock.  Drilling and blasting is not only expensive, dangerous and possibly destructive to surrounding areas, it frequently, like the alternative method of ripping, results in large boulders that mush be hauled away.  Voids are also frequently left and have to be filled in and compacted, thus requiring a great deal of finish grade work.  The Road Miner chips the rock leaving small select spoil that can be used as bedding for the street, or hauled away for use as select material in other applications.

Conventional planers or profilers are limited in their depth of cut to some 8 to 15 inches per pass.  The Road Miner can excavate to a maximum 5 feet in depth in a single pass, eliminating multiple cuts to obtain grade.  Conventional planers also cut within the inside width of their tracks or drive system necessitating a stair step approach to obtain the desired depth.  The Road Miner cuts a full 11 feet wide, and cuts to the outside of both tracks so that multiple side by side cuts can be made to the full desired width of the roadway.

 The Road Miner has all operating functions hydrostatically driven with infinite ranges of speeds to precisely match its operation to existing soil conditions in order to obtain optimum production.  The road Miner can be equipped to provide automatic lateral slope control as well as automatic grade and steering control for exacting grade accuracy.

The 750 horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine provides sufficient power for toughest operating conditions.  The long-frame crawler provides for good balance and traction in difficult right-of-way conditions.  The spoil discharge conveyor is both reversible in direction and shiftable in its transverse position, so that the excavated material may be deposited on either side of the Road Miner and at a practical distance away.

 The operator’s cab is fully enclosed and climate controlled, and may be hydraulically elevated up to 44 inches for increased visibility.  The operator has full control of all machine’s functions from this station.

Versatility and maximum utilization of the equipment can be obtained by changing the digging member of the Road Miner to make it a conventional chain-type rock trencher, capable of digging up to 16-feet deep and up to 54 inches in width.

 CRAWLER DRIVE: Hydrostatic-mechanical with three ranges for infinitely variable speeds from 0-inches to 2mph.

 STEERING: Independent hydrostatic drive for each track.  Counter rotatable for maximum maneuverability.

 FUEL TANKS: Dual tanks – 460 gallon capacity.

HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR: 450 gallon capacity.

OPERATOR’S CAB: Fully enclosed with all machine controls within easy reach of operator.  Elevates hydraulically to 44-inches for increased operator visibility.  Optional air conditioner available.

CONVEYOR: 36-inch wide belt, reversible in direction, with speed infinitely variable from 0 to 800 rpm.  End sections fold up for transport by means of electric winches.

CONVEYOR SHIFT: Hydraulically driven rack and pinion type with automatic anti-drift brake.

BOOM HOIST: Double acting, dual hydraulic cylinders.

CRUMBING SHOE: Hydraulically controlled.

DIGGING ASSEMBLY DRIVE:  Hydrostatically driven on both sides of headshaft through gear reduction boxes. Headshaft chain cases are fully enclosed and oil bath lubricated.

DIGGING ASSEMBLY:  Cutter head is 11-feet wide providing a maximum depth cut of 60-inches.  Cutter drum and plates are wquipped with the Trencor Jetco patented tooth blocks to accommodate conical carbide cutters and the patented Trencor Jetco dirt tooth to provide maximum production in both hard rock and soft soil conditions.
